I know that for the relationship editor, overwriting a relationship merges the old and new attributes, including dates. But this doesn't hold e.g. for setting the recording date.

Is there a way to bulk edit relationship dates?

Here's a sample query.

Look at the first release, and find the "medium-list" section. Until just recently, "medium-list" itself had a count attribute which was equal to the number of discs/vinyls in the release. This went away, but I noticed that under "medium > disc-list" there's a count attribute which seemed to be the number of discs in the release, but as you can see, this number is completely bogus. Why the disc-list count is 30 for the first entry, I have no idea. There are several that are 28 and at least one that's 29 too. They seem to be almost random numbers and bear no relation to anything that I can figure out. Also this number is always 0 for Vinyl/Cassette releases, which I guess makes sense because they aren't discs exactly, but most albums on vinyl require at least two platters, and there's no way to determine that either.

Please put the count back under medium-list, or get disc-list to return values that actually mean something. There's no reason for this information to not be available anymore from a release query. As it is now, my tagger is completely broken because there's no good work around that wouldn't require hammering the server for each release in the results.

how can I add an existing disc-id to another release?

Background: When I was traveling some time ago, I hadn't had my MB account at hand. So when ripping a CD at a friends site, I noted all release-data. Picard found the disc-id to be the same as for an existing release (same tracks, just a different release). Now I want to add this disc-id to the new release I created when back home.

MB records already some of the discs as separate release groups:
disc 1
disc 2

I don't know if the discs have ever been sold separately.
The box set has been issued by Melodiya and BMG (see Discogs) and I have in hand a release by Amadeus

I understand a box set should be entered as one release with several media.
Should I add a brand new release or merge the existing records?
In the first case, how to evidence the link the box set and the discs alone?
In the latter case, how practicaly do the merging?

I was using Picard to correctly tag the album "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum and in doing so noticed that it had switched tracks 8 and 9 around. So I checked it out on the website and found that the release (http://musicbrainz.org/release/f143288b … 6752cf5e04) has two Disc IDs linked to it. The first ID appears to be the culprit as the track lengths suggest "If I Knew Then" is track 8 and "Stars Tonight" is track 9.

According to all websites I have looked at (Discogs, Amazon etc.) the proper track listing should be "Stars Tonight" as track 8 and "If I Knew Then" as track 9, which is what the second Disc ID states.

As I am a novice when it comes to editing I didn't want to simply remove the first Disc ID for being incorrect, because it must have come from a CD somewhere. I also didn't know if this would allow me to change the track listing or whether it's more complicated than that.

Any help would be appreciated.

the data dumps are not xml.

Is it possible to generate musicbrainz xml on my PC?

I guess this will be possible from webserver xml because it is xml anyhow, but I am not sure.

I also guess it might be possible to transform the non-xml data dump of musicbrainz into xml data dump, but I am not sure.

Again, is it possible to generate musicbrainz "xml" on my PC?

when uploading cover-images, I often get the message "Please reduce your request rate". I already enabled cookies for archive.org, but this did not help. Sometime I can updated on a second try, but today, not a single upload passed.

What am I doing wrong?

For example if I  execute the following query trying to look for the musicbrainz id of John Lennon:

Also, if I try to look for the name of the artist that corresponds to the actual John Lennon id ('4d5447d7-c61c-4120-ba1b-d7f471d385b9'):
