Topic: Unofficial performance of parts of a soundtrack

Currently, the database has the following three releases:
http://musicbrainz.org/release/736f86d9 … 4582f.html
http://musicbrainz.org/release/296eb61a … 25cdf.html
http://musicbrainz.org/release/5156f37e … 04745.html

These look to be three separate releases with UPCs 741914600022, 741914600121, and 741914600220 respectively.

Which are further compounded into a release called "Music from the Star Wars Trilogy" with UPC 741914101376.

All from KRB Music Companies.

They are Star Wars songs redone by a synth/midi "orchestra" known as The New World Orchestra "conducted" by Andrew Hopson.

On the back they all say "All selections are newly recorded and have not appeared on the original soundtrack of the Star Wars trilogy. These recordings are in no way associated with John Williams or the producers of the Star Wars films" leading me to believe it is completely unofficial.

As you can see above, the release is already messed up in the database; I would like to fix it, but I don't know how it should be corrected since it's a box set of 3 unofficial performances of selected pieces of the original Star Wars trilogy's soundtrack. (whew!)

If you need any more info, let me know.  I can give you whatever is on the 3 CDs or box set slip cover.

Not much info on these is on Google or Amazon--the set has ASIN B0006ZNF4M but most of the info is wrong.  It might have been a small release here on the east coast US (I think I got it 10-11 years ago at a $5&10 store in a small town in North Carolina).

Thanks for the help!

Re: Unofficial performance of parts of a soundtrack

Howdy!
Take a look at this edit Edit ID: 12580255 and you'll see were dealing with the same problem you're having except, you have more info on the releases.  Care to chime in?

Thanks in advance.

Dang!

Re: Unofficial performance of parts of a soundtrack

Dumping response from IRC until I can get to it.

<reosarevok> Z-95, have they never been released on their own? (without being in a boxset)
<Z-95> I'm not entirely sure, they each have their own UPCs, but I have them in the box set
<Z-95> hard to find info about them, they're not widespread (and not licensed) and are not great sounding
<reosarevok> If you're not sure, I'd suggest adding a fourth release for the boxset... does the boxset itself have a fourth UPC too?
<Z-95> yes
<Z-95> the main part I am unsure about is who to release them under
<reosarevok> You can add that then, and from the tracklist, press Add Disc, existing tracklist, and find the three disc and add them
<reosarevok> Hmm, I see
»» reosarevok looks
<Z-95> they are unofficial performances of John Williams music, done by The New World Orchestra who is just the single guy Andrew Hopson
<Z-95> at least as far as I could find out
<reosarevok> I would probably use The New World Orchestra, who if it's truly just that guy should be of type Person and be related to him with "performs as"
<reosarevok> And if the tracks themselves are covering specific songs of the soundtracks, as they look like, you can relate them to the specific works, which would also credit JW as composer
»» reosarevok goes make sandwiches, back in a while
<Z-95> ok!  I will look into that, thanks for the help
<CallerNo6> IF the tracks /aren't specific songs from the soundtrack, couldn't they be "partial performances" of the parent work?
<CallerNo6> (if there is one)
<Z-95> hmm, yes I think they could, I'll look in to that
<Z-95> NGS makes this weird release easier to fix :)
