Topic: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

Is it possible to make Picard's scan for tags prefer band's official studio albums, instead of some compilation with multiple artists?

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

Not in the current release, but I hope the next release will support it. I started to work on that feature, it just needs some fine tuning.

But at the moment I can't say when we will have a new release ready.

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

It's great that you're working on it. Is there any ETA on the new release?

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

I think his second point says, that no, there's not :)

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

Bump. Any new info regarding this?

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

It's a feature I've promised to work on for GSoC this summer. So, stay tuned I guess.

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

bitmap - is your GSoC work related to migrating Picard to the new web service entirely, and generally adding support for NGS features/flexibility?

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

It's mainly focusing on utilizing the new web service correctly and figuring out how to work with multi-disc releases (displaying/interacting with them) and different release versions (what is now release events under the context menu). The preference for albums over compilations thing is the only "new feature" I've promised to add, but I have a few other things in mind if I finish early (this is just quoting from the proposal):

* Allow adding a release to your MusicBrainz.org collection from Picard. An option can be added to the context and application menu for releases in the right hand pane, so you can PUT that release MBID into your web collection. This would require MB account information in the preferences, of course.
* Add preferences for "standardized" track and artist names. With the shift to represent track titles and artist credits as they appear on covers, some users may prefer to instead have their titles and artist names standardized by COD and other guidelines. I would develop configuration options for using recording titles over track titles and regular artist names instead of "artist as credited" names.

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

I'm really glad that there's planned work against NGS. One of my biggest fears for NGS was that there'd be no-one with the time/willingness to take the axe to Picard that will likely be required to get the most benefits out of it.

The second point in your "extra" list is hugely important IMO. Otherwise NGS represents a massive change in the data that end users will likely see.

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

I had the same fear, I use Picard very often so I wanted to help keep it current. :) I agree the standardized title stuff is important—I'll probably move that up on the list. Anyway, coding doesn't start until May 23, but I plan on starting pretty early (once I recover from final exams).

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

Hello, bitmap. Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I was curious how is the development of this feature going, is it abandoned or left for later?

Regards

Re: Picard: Prefer official studio albums instead of compilations?

Actually, I didn't end up implementing this, outsidecontext did. Have you looked in Preferences -> Metadata -> Preferred Releases? You may need to update Picard.
