Topic: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

Hi!

Well, my problem is really simple. I found a release with a track list that the artist in their web site that it's wrong.

What should we do? Keep the track list as in the cover, or change it?

Release: http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/31 … aa951c2254
Artist comment: http://www.beefheart.com/datharp/albums … cbmbgb.htm

Thanks in advance!

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

Mmmm... I think I made a mistake. That site is not an official site. However, the author claims that listening the album, shows that the track list is wrong.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

If there is reason to believe a cover/tracklist is wrong, we fix it in MusicBrainz - it should reflect reality, not mistakes :) It's best to note your reason for changing it in your edit note, with the research you've done - and preferably to add an annotation to the release explaining that it differs from the cover so that someone doesn't blindly change it back.

When you update such a thing, be careful to ensure that recordings don't become mislinked to tracks - they may need some clean up afterwards.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

I'm not going to make the edit.

Although I was able to verify that at least seven songs were wrong -listening the 30 seconds in lastfm, and comparing with my own CB & MB discs- and that four were miswritten by Ozit or whoever made the cover, there were two songs -tracks 14 and 16-, that I couldn't verify listening to that 30 seconds.

They both sound like Safe as Milk, but I was not able to recognize what he was saying to compare to lyrics.

So, maybe It's going to be better to leave it this way.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

Well, you could fix the tracks that you definitely know are wrong? If there's some you can't tell with, those can presumably be fixed later?

Ok. I'm going to do that.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

Just one more question: That release group has two releases (disc 1 and disc 2), but I already sent them to merge, and changed the title of the disc 1 release. If I make changes to the tracks, are they going to fail?

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

I believe they should work okay.

Done. I made it in two edits: one for misspellings, and the other one to correct songs.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

Whoa, that has to be the most mistake-ridden cover for an album ever?
Seems very weird.

Re: Cover track list vs. What the artist say is correct

From the beginning: CB & MB didn't make concerts in UK in 1970 and 1971, but Ozit claims this release is for presentations from 1970 until 1980. The miswritten tracks, well, it is easy to make such mistakes -ejem. But confuse songs, or create from nowhere a song (track 17), that's... weird, yes.

Anyway, I don't have access to the full album (just track 2), so, if someone has it, it would be good to verify the edits.
