Topic: Coverart available but not useable?

Hello

first of all, this project is great! also picard works great!
but...

what about the covers?

please check this link:
http://s14.directupload.net/file/d/2887 … o8_png.htm

i uploaded a screenshot. there you can see that there is a cover available but the release says "no cover" .... i don't get it ... maybe i'm to stupid?

please somebody help me ;)

i already tagged 10gb of my cd-rips and everything worked fine, but no mp3 has a cover :(

thx

P.S.: sry about my english ;)

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

Hi! Those are two separate things:

First, that sentence means we don't have uploaded cover art on the Cover Art Archive, but it doesn't imply there's none at all - maybe we should make that more clear :)

Second, for including cover art with your tags in Picard you need the cover art plugin ("Cover Art Downloader" from http://musicbrainz.org/doc/MusicBrainz_Picard/Plugins ). If you have that, it's configured and still doesn't work, it might be that you're trying to get digital download or customer images from Amazon (for some legal reasons, we can't serve those).

and whats the source of the cover on the right side?

yes, i'm using the cover art plugin. but first off all there should be a cover in the online database. the plugin hasn't any option like "download from amazon".

but why put the uploader a cover on the right side of the page and not directly into the release?
i don't get it.

now i can download the picture on the right side and upload it directly into the release, thats not the problem...it's just a waste of time. why can't the database handle this? or a script oder something?

the screenshot i posted is about a cd with has 5 releases. 3 of them have a cover on the right side of the page and 2 don't. so the right side is release dependent. so the relationship between a release and a cover is already done....somewhere.

thx for your explanation ;)

In my experience the cover art on the right comes from the Archive if available, if not, from a linked Amazon ASIN.

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

Yeah. Or it might have come from an automatic Amazon search by barcode. The archive (and its Cover Art tab) are a very new addition, so the majority of the covers on the sidebar are still obtained from an Amazon ASIN. And there are some cases where the cover art plugin can't use those (but I don't remember which ones they are)

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

ok thx...hmm
now things got more clearer

but something looks wired to me:

Why does a release have 2 places vor cover art? (the cover tab and this on the right side)
Why don't use the picard plugin both sources?

btw:
i use the newest version of picard. i think it's 0.16.
after the installation there was already a "cover art" entry in the options window.
after installing the cover art downloder plugin..nothing changes...still the same options available. right new the plugin is doing nothing ;)

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

The one on the right side is for the front cover.  The cover art tab can contain multiple images, so we can have the back, the pages of the CD booklet and the CD label.  The reason Picard doesn't use the images from the cover art tab is because the cover art tab is literally days old.  No-one's had time to change the plugin yet.

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

The Picard cover art plugin on the downloads page (and packaged with Picard) is not yet properly updated to use the cover art archive images. As Billy Yank rightly says, this functionality is new, and there are some technical problems that (probably) require a new Picard release. Soon, most likely.

Re: Coverart available but not useable?

ok thx to all!

i'm new to musicbrainz so i didn't recognise this is a new feature.

so all i have to do is wait for a update ... thx ;)
