Hi,
is there a way to merge media (not releases)?
Background: http://musicbrainz.org/release/2aee21ea … 38dd0630a/ is a 6 LP release (see Edit #16795268), but each side has been added as a separate medium. So A- and corresponding B-sites need to be merged.
As far as I know there is currently no way of doing that. You'll have to add the tracks form the second side to the tracklist of the first site and point those tracks to the recordings of the second side in the release editor.
I *think* it's at least clever enough to suggest the right recordings in the recording tab, though.
It *seams* to suggest the right recordings, but one never can be sure.
I'm giving up on this, it's much too much work:
- For each disk: open A and B side tracklists, copy the side B it, open the track-parser for A side, insert the tracks of side B, correct each new line so the track parser works
- Then "Next>>" to Recordings"
- For each existing track: verify it is still the same track. For this: compare all links with those in the tracklist
- For each new track: ask for suggestion, again verify it is still the same track
- Then "Next>>" to "Add missing entries"
- Add each missing artist and verify it's the correct one.
This is much too much stupid, error-frown work where a simple "merge" operation on the database would suffice. I'm not going to waste my time on this kind of work.
(I admit, that probably it's not worth implementing a "merge media" function as it is rarely used. Nevertheless it's a wast of human resource if this has to be done by a human.)
I agree that it's a lot of work to fix these releases, though as you say it would require even more developer time to fix this, and this is quite rare.
You can however, copy the url of an artist, recording or anything with an MBID and paste it into an artist, recording etc. field. The website will automatically load the right object. So if you keep the release open in a different tab of your browser and right click -> copy link (or whatever it's called in your browser and language) on a recording in the tab with the release and paste it in the search box of the recording tab, the right recording will be loaded automatically.
Also, if you don't use the track parser, you can add a couple of lines in the tracklist, copy the the track titles for each track, and copy paste the artist url into the artist box, you don't have to pass through the Add Missing Entities tab.
Hey guys, I think you can do this with mass merge recordings…
If you want to merge tracks 1-6 of a tracklist A to tracks 7-12 of tracklist B, go to tracklist B, paste tracklist A’s URL in mass merge recordings, tell it to start from track 7 and then hit the mass merge button.
It should merge A1→B7, A2→B8, A3→B9, A4→B10, A5→B11 and A6→B12.
I don’t know if that’s what you want but if it’s not, I think it can help you anyway. :)

I'll give this one a try. But how to "activate" a userjs?
For Firefox, you'll have to install the Greasemonkey extension and click the green install button on the script's Userscripts page. For other browsers I don't know, perhaps Chrome supports userscripts natively, and I don't expect IE is able to handle it.
