Topic: Re-cleaning by fingerprint but can't figure out how

Hey guys

My music collection is a mess.  Before it got to Picard and musicbrainz it'd been munched and re-munched by many tagger programs and has tonnes of incorrectly labeled stuff.  Basically, I don't trust any of the info in filename or tags.

I want to re-check by fingerprint.  But most of my collection shows up as matched files in an album view, and I can't drag any of those items back to the "unmatched files" to make them lookup.  I also don't want to make assumptions based on clustering or albums, etcetera.

Can someone tell me how to force a fingerprint lookup for all my music files?  Even directories are completely suspect.

thanks

Hmm. You should be able to just drag and drop everything into the left pane...

Hey reosarevok

Thanks for the reply.  I can drag from the right pane into the left "unscanned" pane, but only individual songs after opening up an album.  if I select multiple albums nothing happens when I drag them to the left.

Once on the left is the best way to force a fingerprint to right click "scan" ?

thanks

Yes. If that's the case, you're in Windows and you have loads of files you might want to use http://www.mp3tag.de/en/ to remove all the MBID tags so the files are no longer moved to the right pane... I'm sure other stuff does the same in other OSes.

This is not strictly required in Picard 1.0. There's a config option "Ignore MBIDs when loading new files" - enable it.

Yes, pressing "Scan" is fingerprinting. You can also make Picard "Automatically scan all new files" in the options.
