Topic: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

Hi all,
i am new to MB Picard and i am really glad i found this tool/forum here. Excellent work btw :)

I know my subject may sound weird to you because that is what MB Picard should do, but...

I have approximately 2500 Songs in my library and 1794 of them are now messed up because i used tuneup Media the last days.
I have had really a lot of samplers and now after using tuneup all the songs have been retagged to the original album.

For example:
"The edge of heaven" by wham! was on compilation: Die Hit Giganten - Hits der 80er and is now tagged with
"The edge of heaven" on Album "Music from The Edge of Heaven" by Artist wham!

The result of using tuneup is, that i have about 1000 New Albums that no one needs and i want to retag my Music to get my Compilations/Samplers back.

I found out that i can use the Website to search a release (Die Hit Giganten - Hits der 80er) and use the "tagger"-Button to load this release into MB Picard.

My Question is:
Is there a way to automatically force MB Picard to search for these Songs in the "Unmatched Files" Folder on the left side of the Programm? This way it would be easy to retag my compilations. Right now i have to manually search through all the Songs and drag and drop them onto the Compilation on the right.

I really hope that anyone did understand my question :)

Cheers Mario

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

after searching your files by Acoustic Fingerprints, Picard will show you possible matches on the right pane. Hopefully you will have both versions listed there, but unfortunately you have to select your album from those and tag the correct one.

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

Hi,
i dont scan the files i just do a lookup.
Isn't it possible to search the tracks in the unmatched files folder on the left automatically ?

Or can i get matches only by artist and songname ? All my Songs are tagged...but wrong :) :(

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

I don't think so. Hoping I'm wrong :)

BTW, are your folder and file names also messed up? If not, you maybe can use some other program to retag your files from your folder structure.

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

You could try using "Scan" which ignores the existing metadata - you're probably more likely to get Compilation matches with that approach. You can also try changing the sliders in Options > metadata > preferred releases to increase the preference for Compilations (you'll probably want to change it back after you're finished fixing these ones though!)

You can indeed enable "Automatically scan new files" in Options > General which would automate this part. You cannot automate a cluster lookup or file-by-file lookup.

To do a lookup without the album details, do this:
1) add all your files into unmatched files
2) select them all (SHIFT +click or CTRL+A)
3) look at the metadata box at bottom of screen. You should see entries like "(different across x items)"
4) find the "album" row. Press delete or right click > remove. It should become highlighted in red to imply it's going to be deleted from your existing files. It won't actually change your files unless you press save, but you don't need to save.
5) do the same for "total tracks" and "track number"
6) now do your lookup

This will do a search without album or track details, so search by artist, title and length, basically. It might match back to the same album, or might match a compilation. You can try and prefer the compilation with my suggestion above.

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

Hi and thx for your answer...
It was a nice approach but it didn't work.
I found a way that is ok for me. I am putting a compilation from the websearch via tagger-button into MB Picard. Then i drag all the unmatched files onto the closed album and violà....i just have to drag the unmatched ones back to the left

Nice nice
Have a nice weekend

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

Me again,

it is so time consuming to drag some 1000 Songs to match a preferred album.. so my question above is unanswered again.

I have searched a lot of compilations and put them into MB Picard. Now i want all the songs on the left to be matched with these albums / compilations.
Is there no way to automate this ?

For example:
Mark all the albums that should be lookedup on the left and drag the tracks on the right onto this selection?
Do i really have to drag and drop all the song onto each album ?

compilation lookup

Cheers

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

I already answered your question with multiple approaches and you bluntly said "it didn't work" without providing any details nor explaining which of the approaches you tried, so that's it from me.

Re: Match Compilation/Album Songs with unmatched Songs

Sorry,
i thought it was clear... i followed all the steps you gently described.
I deleted the tags you mentioned and inserted Bravo Hits to album and various artists to album_interpret.
The look up ended in the same 100s of different compilations as before.

I found the way that i can drop all my tracks onto one album to match the songs.. but thats very annoying...so i asked my question above
