Topic: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Same album, 99% same credits.

Is there a way to just take all or most of these ARs and automatically attach them from link 1 to link 2?

I know I could do it all manually but that seems like an arduous task for anytime there is a reprint of a release.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Not really, at the moment :(

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Thanks for the answer. Slightly annoying and disconcerting to have to continually replicate ARs.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Well, the system is designed so most would be in the recordings and thus not need it, but sadly with credits on releases usually being shit that's not always possible. I am not sure if the summer of code work with a relationship editor could allow this (either insite or as an userscript of some kind like Copyable Artist Credits)

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

That or a way to merge down ARs to the recordings. The merged down I guess would then be removed from the Release portion then.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Have you checked existing user scripts? Think there are some for batch work with ARs, although I'm not sure.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Thank you Lixobix for the link, however I do already use a batch of the scripts and the problem that is being discussed is inherent in the musicbrainz system.

It may be just me but musicbrainz also doesn't explain or say where it would rather have relationships attached. Thus most of them being in a release when 90% of them are across every release of an album and thus could be on recording.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

I am pretty sure I read that before. I was wondering if say Engineer, or Producer belongs at release level vs recording level.

I guess either would work, however if there is a remaster version of the same album then being on recording level might have many relationships that may not be applicable.

Take the original link I posted in this thread as an example.

Daniel Licht is the composer and performed many instruments on the album, which instrument per track I do not know, so I assume release is best for this.

A fully written guide of what goes where, why and that gets updated to deal with outliers, would be helpful. Relying on users to do their best for a standardized database doesn't seem good.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

I think the only ones that everyone seems to agree go always on release are artwork and the like (reasonably enough) and exec producer. A fair amount of people say master too, but they keep not trying to make it a guideline when I tell them to :/

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

I wonder if there can be a middle ground between recording and release. So the info can be attached and spread easier. However doesn't pollute the recordings for more explicit ARs attached to them/works.

Demono: It would be nice indeed if we would Allow for different sections in a medium (STYLE-125/ML), edit: but I’m not sure it’s what you said exactly.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

It is close enough, as long as you could link said sections to multiple releases or albums, that would allow the credits or ARs to be easily moved around. All the rest of the proposed changes look interesting as well

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

This kind of falls in the same area, but is there a way to parse mass amounts of AR credits?

Pasting a lot of credits into a parser to auto sort and set up AR relationships which you then just have to make sure the right artist/relationship was added or to where.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

I know somebody was working on it, but I have no idea what came out of that. At the moment, no.

Re: Is it possible to move a lot of ARs together?

Nikki had made an AR text parser but I don't know up to what point.
