Topic: [n00b] Help - Adding information to a release

Hi, I got a rather odd CD.
I bought it (used) for one song, but I'm kind of pedantic and I'd like the data to be correct.
The release -

http://musicbrainz.org/release/ef4a9a9f … 624111fc1f

The release did not have any MB ID associated - that's done now.
None of the tracks had ISRC codes.
I used cdrdao to get a ToC w/ ISRC codes and there were codes for every song EXCEPT the first track.

The ISRC codes were not completely in sequence -

02 ISRC "DEA819501044"
03 ISRC "DEA819501022"
04 ISRC "DEA819501045"
05 ISRC "DEA819501046"
06 ISRC "DEA819501047"
07 ISRC "DEA819501048"
08 ISRC "DEA819501049"
09 ISRC "DEA819501050"
10 ISRC "DEA819501023"
11 ISRC "DEA819501051"
12 ISRC "DEA819501052"
13 ISRC "DEA819501053"
14 ISRC "DEA819501054"

They are in sequence except for track 03 and 10 - which are in sequence with each other not the rest of the CD.
I know of no way to validate the ISRC. Is there a way?

With respect to track 01 - I believe they did not perform it themselves.
I believe what they did was take the Smokie "Living Next Door To Alice" track and just inserted the phrase "Alice, Who The F*** is Alice" at funny points in it. So that may be why it doesn't have ISRC, because it isn't a cover as much as it is a minor mod?

Is the original recording. Should that ISRC be used?

-=-

The CD is pretty much a CD of covers. I believe Gompie performs all the covers except that first 1 where they just inserted the lyrics.
Some of the covers are more than one song in the cover.

Track 06 - Everybody must get Stoned

In the release here, that's all the title has. But on CD it has two subtitles :
- Rainy Day Women NOS. 12 and 35
- They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!

Track 12 - Country Party

In release here, that's all the title has. But on CD it has four subtitles :
- Bonanza
- (Ghost) Riders in the Sky
- Rawhide
- Deep in the Heart of Texas

I assume those need to be indicated?

Thanks for suggestions on how to do this.

Re: [n00b] Help - Adding information to a release

You can add those like "Everybody must get Stoned: Rainy Day Women NOS. 12 and 35 / They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!"

And the ISRCs don't *need* to be in sequence. They usually are, because all of the disc gets mastered and ISRC'd together, but for example, if a recording is first released as a single or whatever and it gets an ISRC there, then that'll get reused for the album.

About track 1 - don't guess. If it gives no info, just leave it with no ISRC - not every track has one and it might be that here there just isn't one.

These ISRC seem correct to me.
It’s never a problem that some ISRC aren’t in sequence, various reasons can explain that, while not making the ISRC incorrect.
Sometimes the track order is decided change after ISRC have been registered, etc.
Just submit them as is IMO the disc is usually one of the best source.

Re: [n00b] Help - Adding information to a release

I've seen errors in mastering where an ISRC will get duplicated to two tracks. In that case it is wrong, but we have no way of knowing which one of the two is correct (unless it is correct on another release). In this case, I just leave the duplicate off BOTH and add a note to the release annotation.

But, as Jesus2099 said, the CD itself is usually the best source of ISRC information.

The duplicate ISRCs are not necessarily an error in mastering per se; but can also be an error in the way drives read them from the disc. In either case; the better of the tools work around this and will almost always give you a sensible/correct listing of ISRCs by checking multiple points within the same track rather than just the start of the track to avoid possible incorrect ISRCs at the very start of the track.

Yes, as Voice said, having consecutive identical ISRC (edit:18772004) is usually either ISRC slide down bug (most frequently, try mediatools) or split track ISRC (less frequently) rather than mastering bug (even less frequently, have not seen myself this case yet). ;)
