Topic: Picard not pulling Date field from Musicbrainz for some releases

I am currently trying to tag two Dave Matthews Band albums: Everyday and Listener Supported.  Picard tags Everyday just fine, but for Listener Supported it does not pull in the Date tag.

- Both albums are composed of mp3's
- Picard has Id3v2 version 2.4 tags enabled
- Picard scripting has been turned off
- I tried comparing the two albums in Musicbrainz to see if perhaps one had a date listed in a certain spot while the other did not, but both Musicbrainz entries look identical in terms of the types of data they contain.

Can someone help me understand why the Date field for Listener Supported is not being pulled in by Picard?

Below are links to the release pages for each of the albums above:
- Dave Matthews Band, Everyday: http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/20 … c57f7b7b95
- Dave Matthews Band, Listener Supported: http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/21 … ca9a15b6f2

I appreciate your help as I continue to learn about Musicbrainz and Picard.

Jeff

Re: Picard not pulling Date field from Musicbrainz for some releases

Does it put anything in the date field? e.g. The Year but not the full date?

Re: Picard not pulling Date field from Musicbrainz for some releases

Doesn't put anything in the Date field at all - just leaves it completely blank.

Another interesting piece of info I just found out: I have the same Listener Supported album in .m4a format (these files came from a separate source than the mp3's) and, for these, the Date field pulls in with no problems at all.  So it must be something to do with my mp3 format and/or the mp3tagging options I have set in Picard - I think.

Re: Picard not pulling Date field from Musicbrainz for some releases

Could the mp3 header be damaged?

Re: Picard not pulling Date field from Musicbrainz for some releases

Actually, it must be.  I just used iTunes to convert the m4a version of one of the songs to mp3, then added it to Picard and found that the Date variable pulled in just fine.  It must, therefore, be that there is some problem with my original mp3 file.

I know that the purpose of this forum is to discuss the tagger and not issues with files themselves, so I'll keep subsequent discussion brief: how can I check for a damaged headers/other problems with my mp3 files that might cause issues like originally started this thread?
