Topic: PUID(s) for multiple songs in one track

I've been generating and adding PUIDs for the tracks of this release, but now I'm unsure what to do with the last track (18). It consists of two songs that would normally be in different tracks, separated by about two minutes of silence.

Should I add
- a PUID for the whole track?
- a PUID for each of the songs?
- both, i.e. three PUIDs in total?

From the view of a future user, I think having PUIDs for each of the songs would be useful; I'd expect someone ripping mp3s from the CD to split up this last track. Is it a problem to have multiple PUIDs for one track?

Re: PUID(s) for multiple songs in one track

I don't think splitting is a good idea. You can't be sure that you start the second track at the precise point where it would start in a 19-track releases, and even one millisecond difference might give a completely different PUID, which means the PUID you would generate has every chance of being unique (and thus unusable for anyone else).

Re: PUID(s) for multiple songs in one track

It is most definitely NOT correct to manually split the track and then submit the PUIDs for two split tracks to MB, for the reasons davitof describes. The correct PUID is submit is ONLY the one for the whole split track.

If we wanted people to submit PUIDs for individual songs in split tracks, we'd allow the release to be entered with those tracks split out, which we don't, so it makes no sense to have the PUIDs split.

Less than 0.00001% of people ripping CDs would manually split mp3s of split tracks so I think saying "I'd expect someone ripping... to split up this last track" is quite inconsistent with the way most users go about their music ripping.
