Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

I've haven't had much time to follow MB lately, but this seem kinda important...

Lukz's Recording/track distinctions discussion, and
the resulting proposal: RFC-333: Unify track/recording guidelines

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

Okay. So there are going to be times when nothing on [mb-style] piques my interest, or I get sidetracked with other things. So if you see something that you think is worth cross-posting, please feel free to add to this thread.

Recently Passed
RFV-337: Add 'solo' performer relationship attribute

Threads I'm following
RFC: recordings: remove remaster from the 'should not be merged' list highlights the differing views on what real world thing™ the Recording entity represents.
RFC-341 CSG Recording parts Relations introduces the idea of a nested Recording structure for multi-part Works. Conceived for "classical" but equally applicable to audio books and prog-fests.

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

RFC-merge-master: If we are merging different masters, we should also remove the person-recording mastering AR or we face inconsistency.
RFC-341 is the kind of overkill that people on ML tend to discuss, forgetting the simple needed stuff, IMO.

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

I agree with jesus2099 though the person-recording mastering AR cannot be simply removed from recordings as track list items (the logical place to move the AR to) do not currently allow ARs.

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

RFV: Percussion and string instruments has renamed "string instruments" and "percussion instruments" to "strings" and "percussion" respectively.
RFV-319: Add warning about conductors/choir masters to Member of Band has added a section about conductors and chorus masters to the "member of band" relationship type page. (wiki diff)

RFC: Add Symphonic poem to the work type list
RFC-346. Style/Language/Vietnamese : Punctuation change

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

Open proposal:
RFC-347: CSG update for NGS

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

Rather than use this thread, the new style co-leader is (or was) considering a regular style update posted to the blog (and he wouldn't be the first :-P )

Of course, that summary could still be cross-posted here if that seems useful.

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

A few (somewhat) Recently Passed proposals:
Change Performance Relationship Type to Recording Relationship Type
Add Work Type "Poems"
RFV-358: Allow links to video channels on sites other than Youtube

Also, some progress has been made towards an official post-NGS Classical Style Guide (if you're into that sort of thing).

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

Newly Passed:

Warp posted a question to [mb-style] and [mb-devel] which I'll cross-post here because the more eyeballs the better.

On nikki's advice, I'm moving this post to its own topic.

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

Kinda related (at least in my mind) to the previous question on recordings, there's currently a thread in [mb-users] that some of you might be interested in.

Are different digital downloads different releases?

Re: Dispatches from the [mb-style] mailing list

There's an epic (and gettin epic-er) thread right now, discussing the future of recordings as "mixes".
RFC-STYLE-208-New-Recordings-Guidelines.

I'm waiting for the audiobook version.
