Topic: Fixing file names and tags in ALL CAPS?

I got a bunch (almost 1,000) of tracks from a fellow who insists on using ALL CAPS for his file names and tag data. They have the correct info so I just need to fix the capitalization. (He uses an old version of iTunes on Windows XP because that's what the digitizing software he uses works with.)

How about a modification to the Title Case plugin? Apparently that only shifts the first character of each word to uppercase, does nothing for the rest of the words.

Another issue with his recordings is on most of them he appends his own code for the type of media to the end of the album name, cp for cassette, rd for record and cd for CD. On some of them he puts the original record stock number in parentheses.

Is there some way to strip those off automatically?

I may end up with a lot more because he said he'll give me all his records, 8-Tracks, cassettes etc plus all the MP3 files when he kicks the bucket. ;) Almost none of them show up on the databases because they're not ripped from CDs.

Re: Fixing file names and tags in ALL CAPS?

Picard's role is to correctly identify and tag your files using Musicbrainz database. AFAIK, it does not produce tags from file names. You might need some other software for that purpose. I guess mp3tag or foobar2000 can do that, but you have to do some scripting.

edit: hmm sorry I guess I misread some part of your post. If your friend appended them to tags then you can maybe strip them with picard scripting. Ofc it might be a pain, depending on how your friend separated them from album names.

Indeed this is not the purpose of Picard. However if they're not in the database, perhaps you should consider adding them, thus contributing back to the community.

here, this is what i would use to fix your capitalization errors, and strip his coding at the end off of them

BTW fullcaps is best option for titles, never wrong, always beautiful.
