Topic: Do remixes justify new release groups?

As we have the secondary type "Remix" for RGs I wonder whether it is justified to create separate RGs for remix releases or whether they should go to the original RGs of the release.

Examples:

Any thoughts?

Re: Do remixes justify new release groups?

For singles, I would normally put them in the original release group but for albums, I would use separate release groups.

Not sure I could clearly explain why though...

Makes sense to me, allthough I couldn't clearly explain why ... ;-)

Re: Do remixes justify new release groups?

Yeah, that's also what I do.

Re: Do remixes justify new release groups?

What about alternative language versions?  The Alarm[1] released a version of their album "Change" [2] in Welsh, their native tongue.  It has (nearly) all the same songs, with same tunes but lyrics and song & album titles translated into the other language, and released around the same time.  At the moment "Newid" has its own release group [3], but should it be included as just another release in the same group as the English versions since it's essentially the same album?

IMO this is a pretty significant difference, and it should remain as its own RG.

I think the rule of thumb for separate RGs is: Would someone interested in having the “complete set” of an artist’s output want to have both? If so, they should be in separate RGs.
