Topic: Taking a screenshot of a watermarked image

I been struggling to find cover art for iTunes. I'm just curious: If I take a screenshot of a watermarked image, will the screenshot (jpg) have a watermark also?
I would really like to know before I upload watermarked images. The only watermarked images I upload are the ones that have a Creative Commons copyright allowing anyone to share the work and upload it, if these images anyway are watermarked.

Re: Taking a screenshot of a watermarked image

It will, unless the image only shows the watermark when downloaded (I've seen a couple in some Danish shop). I assume the right cover is not in Amazon or iTunes?

Re: Taking a screenshot of a watermarked image

A screenshot will always be the visible image. So if the original image showing in your browser has a visible watermark, the screenshot will, too. Are you talking about visible watermarks or invisible (digitally readable) watermarks? Never heard of the latter in conjunction with pictures, though.

Please give an example?

Chuckmoore. Because along with you guys (i suspect) I have no idea what he means ;)

Screenshot/ Print Screen or right click and download? What kind of watermark? etc

Re: Taking a screenshot of a watermarked image

Pardon my late comeback:
What I mean is downloading the image and then taking a screen shot of it. I'm just not sure if I use an image that doesn't show the visable watermark if the invisible watermark would be embedded.

Re: Taking a screenshot of a watermarked image

The watermark is usually part of the image file, so that won't help in that case. It probably would in the more rare "invisible" watermarks, though.

Hey I don’t think there is a problem with invisible watermarks.
I never scan anything for CAA (no time), I usually use pics from internet that match my releases instead.
It happened that I saw some pics with invisible watermarks (I saw the watermark in only one of my pic viewers, forgot which).
I uploaded it as is, I don’t see problem as it is invisible in web browsers too.

Sometimes that's true, sometimes it's not. I did get one pic (from some Danish webshop) that didn't show any watermarks while in their site, but it did when I uploaded it. That was annoying :/

Ah, must be the thumbnail code, then… And the thumbnails are not generated instantly so maybe my pics show it too now (I watched too early).
