Topic: Cardigans - something to check

If there is a way to access metadata such as ISRC from web interface I haven't found it.
Otherwise I would have checked before posting this.

Anyway, The Cardigans - First Band on the Moon -

When I rip the TOC with cdrdao I noticed that they have a typo in their ISRC codes.

Song 3 has identical ISRC as Song 2

From the ISRC's of all the other tracks it is easy to see what song 3 should have had for an ISRC.

But anyway, since I saw you have automated tools for ripping and submitting ISRC data, just thought I'd give you a heads up that the source has an obvious typo in it, in case it hadn't already been noticed and corrected.

Re: Cardigans - something to check

The identical/duplicate ISRC problem is normally an issue with the tool you are using to read ISRCs and/or the drive itself. Various tools have various approaches to deal with this, but check through the forums for the posts on "isrc submission tool". These have some dicussion of the issues. cdrdao quite possibly has some of these issues and you should verify with a different tool - possibly icedax, mediatools or one of the tools available in the threads above.

In any case, the forums are not generally used for getting corrections done to the data :) If you find a problem with the data, you can create edits to fix it yourself - that's the point of MusicBrainz!

Regarding the web interface; ISRCs are attached to recordings, as you'd expect. So you search for a recording; or search for a release and then click the various tracks to navigate to the recording, e.g.
http://musicbrainz.org/recording/3662f8 … 779cbe9fef
http://musicbrainz.org/recording/534340 … 2cecc27e59

The ISRCs look sensible there. You can also search for recordings by ISRC; if you know the ISRC: http://musicbrainz.org/search?query=isr … d=advanced

And even do wildcard searches for blocks of ISRCs:
http://musicbrainz.org/search?query=isr … d=advanced

Re: Cardigans - something to check

You know, it took me over a minute to find the ISRC - it's way over on the right on the other side of a separator that normally indicates an aside - content not directly related to the main content. That's why I didn't see it when I looked for it before posting.

Now I know where it is.

Re: Cardigans - something to check

Well you could have used CTRL+F and found it a lot quicker than over a minute ;-) For most people the ISRC is not what they're concerned about when looking at a recording; so it's peripheral to most users.

In any case, it's consistent with the rest of MB's design - while not perfect, there's a lot of information to display, and a lot of different use cases that make various metadata differ widely in priority. The developers do their best for a compromise.

Re: Cardigans - something to check

You may find this userscript useful for displaying the ISRCs inline with the tracks: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/81127
