I've used MusicBrainz Picard to tag a huge number of files (over 10,000). I'm down to less than 1000 still unmatched after Lookup and Scan. On most, the existing tags are sufficient. Is there any way to add them to MusicBrainz Picard other than dragging them one-by-one into the albums in the right pane? For files where no album is found, is there any option other than looking them up on MusicBrainz website. If I'm OK with the tags as-is, I'd rather save all the work.
I don't understand - if the existing tags are sufficient, why do you want to do anything with them in Picard? Which "work" are you trying to save if the files are unmatched?
This is common when you have a lot of files some will not be matched. And I understand you want them all the same for these other files.
Can you cluster them?
Drag to the cluster section/folder in Picard?
If you cannot then it is unlikely they are tagged correctly. No album defined, etc.
If they are clustered and they are still not matching then it is unlikely they are in the MusicBrainz database.
If that is the case then you have to lookup them up by hand on the website.

One reason I wanted to "force match" if I'm happy with the tags on unmatched files is so I could then have MusicBrainz save them, which renames the files using a new convention I've adopted. If they aren't matched, they can't be saved, and don't get renamed. I guess that's just how it is.

This is untrue, but a common misconception. You can save files from either panes and it will apply your file renaming/moving settings (as well as saving any manual edits you make to the metadata in the bottom "new value" pane).

I didn’t know that, and I’ve been using Picard since … well, I think since as long as it’s existed.
I really don't know why this misconception exists. The save button is clickable, for example - exactly as you'd expect it to be. Not being aware that the function exists because you don't use it is one thing, but people seem to assert its impossibility, obviously without ever having tried it.
It would never have occurred to me — I would have expected it to be simply that Picard has/had nothing to save to the file until it was matched.
Yeah, I had absolutely no idea either. Is that documented somewhere? Might be interesting to note it in the Picard how to...
