Topic: Merging duplicate tracklists & updating tracklists from recordings

Hi,

I'm fairly new to editing on MusicBrainz. I've started editing as I rip instead of just reading+correcting, and have come across this release group: http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/84 … a6ec6418b7

I was going to clean up the tracklist of the GB release (move feat. to the artist field, etc.) but noticed that the US and GB versions don't seem to share the same tracklists: http://musicbrainz.org/tracklist/1137396 for the US release, http://musicbrainz.org/tracklist/1017872 for the GB release. They seem identical and list the same recordings, so should they be merged? If so, what is the best way?

I tried editing the US release, deleting the disc in the tracklist and adding a new disc with an existing tracklist, but of course when I search for it both the one I'm deleting and the one I'm trying to exchange it for are listed, and I can't tell which is which.

Additionally, before I noticed the duplicate list, I went to change the title & artist of some of the tracks but realised someone had already cleaned all the recordings that were linked to. Is there any way to update the tracklist to use the data from each recording, or do I have to update each track manually?

Thanks

No you can not push from recording or work out to track list, only from track list to recording.

Maybe I am not understanding correctly, but the recordings underneath each track list look to be already connected.

It may be something about the sub second duration of each track, http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-3858

So just reset the disc id to the UK one and redo the same exact time for the US it may fix the problem.

I am not sure but it might separate each time a change is made. To allow for editing or that may be an older feature.

Short of it all, do your changes to the UK and the US if you can, give them all the same relationships, changes, etc if they both need them and do the thing about the duration, this should fix your problems.

Tracklists are supposed to be something internal, and I really don't know why they're visible - the only thing they do is being confusing like here. The important thing is the recordings being the same. And no, you can update recordings from tracklists but not the other way around.

Yeah they are, I was just concerned that if the tracklists were separate then I'd have to edit both when there might be a way to save time and only edit one. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be doing more than is necessary.

Thank you both for the help & information.
