Topic: Who should be defined as an artist?

I think that this problem touch at least the works of Kaczmarski.
He was the singer while in some of his performance other artist have played on instruments[1]:
- Łapiński: Krzyk (The Scream), Sarmatia (Sarmatianland? Untransable?), Szukamy Stajenki (We Seek The Stable?)
- Łapiński & Gintrowski: Mury (Walls), Raj (Paradise), Muzeum (Museum), Wojna Postu Z Karnawałem (The War between Carnival and Lent)

Hence in the MusicBrainz there is 3 different artists. To make it worst Mury and Raj  are labeled as "Kaczmarski" despite being produces by trio.

What is better solution:
- Merge them into one artist - "Kaczmarski" - possibly aliased as duo and trio (my favourite)
- Move each track where it belongs maintaining 3 artists.

[1] It is possible that the disk was recorded many times with different artists - which only make it worst.

Re: Who should be defined as an artist?

As far as I understend Primary Artist I should change it into Kaczmarski.
However do I understend correctly from How editing works that if nobody will vote it will be rejected (the system will wait for 1 week and then accept the suggested change into the database if the simple majority of editors voted yes)?
If yes how to edit incorrecte data for unpopular artist [among MB users]?

Re: Who should be defined as an artist?

If the artist is normal data quality the edit will be accepted even if no votes. HowEditingWorks doesn't make that explicit, but I promise you that's how it works :)

I haven't looked into your specific example, but the key thing is usually to try and handle it how it was credited. Sometimes there are two artist entries with the same name with disambiguation comments e.g.

"Marilyn Manson" disambiguation comment="the person" and
"Marilyn Manson" disambiguation comment="the band"

Not sure if this applies in your case; otherwise just using the PrimaryArtist is acceptable, if the other members were definitely secondary and not credited as being primary/collaborative artists.

Anyway, make your edits with reasons and maybe someone can have a look at them if you post the links here :)

Re: Who should be defined as an artist?

They are credited but are definitly secondary (music and/or chorus) - may be with exception of Raj (Paradise) - despite also being important artists from this period of time (and this is the reason I suspect they wer mentioned).
However one may disagree with it.

Re: Who should be defined as an artist?

As I checked on wikipedia most teksts was by Kaczmarski and on second places were adapted texts. Single texts were written by Gintrowski. Also maiory of music was written by Kaczmarski (however contribution of the Gintrowski and Łapiński is much highier here).
